Domestic violence has a cyclical character, which does not stop by itself. After “explosions of violence” comes a period of reconciliation, moments in which the aggressor promises that “it will not happen again”, after which comes another “storm”. Over time, acts of violence become more frequent and more serious, and mild periods become shorter or disappear altogether and the cycle of violence continues.
The cycle of domestic violence? ️:
?Phase 1. ACCUMULATION. INCREASING VOLTAGE ️
The aggressor follows the victim’s behavior. She tries to blame her for everything, there are unjustifiably unreasonable dissatisfactions, hence the threats, she creates situations that would justify the abuse of her. The victim is very careful and tries in every way to avoid abuse.
Over time, the increase in tension causes the victim to trigger / accelerate the onset of phase 2
?Phase 2. THE VIOLENT ACTION ITSELF ️
It involves an uncontrolled discharge of tension by blows, shouts. If the victim opposes, the aggressor will become even more violent. It is a game “of power”, designed to show the victim “who is the boss”
?Phase 3. “HONEYMOON” ️
An unusually calm period. The aggressor does everything he can to regain control and keep the victim in the relationship: he apologizes, is calm, loving, makes gifts. This peaceful phase of the “honeymoon” can give the victim hope that the abuser has really changed this time.
The illusion is created that the soul, emotional connection between the partners grows.
In any situation of violence only the aggressor is to blame and must be punished according to the law.
The cycle of violence repeats itself. It is rare for violence against women to be singular. Incidents are repeated more and more frequently and become more and more serious over time.
THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE CAN BE INTERRUPTED
The cycle of violence can be interrupted if the victim does not immediately forgive the first acts of violence and will resist or seek help. Relatives, friends, the police, the social worker, the mayor, the specialized services can be helpful in case of violence ️
