Whether they are fleeing war, persecution or persecution, they carry with them not only the burden of a past marked by pain, but also the dream of a brighter future. In the face of the unknown, every step they take is a proof of resistance and love of life, a desire to give their loved ones a chance at happiness” tells us Olga, a member of the Mobile Team🚍.
👩🦰Nina, a refugee, mother of a 3-year-old child, who was born during this tragic period of war but who was a guardian angel for her mother, giving her strength to go through all the hardships of life.
Nina’s story is a moving one about courage and survival in the face of war and domestic violence. Before the conflict broke out, Nina lived in a quiet town in Ukraine with her husband Andrei, eagerly awaiting the birth of their son.
💬“You know, when I found out I was pregnant, everyone around me was happy. My husband, Andrei, was next to me, his eyes full of love. We were waiting together for the moment when we would come home with our little boy, with smiles and hopes. I thought our life would be like this forever,” Nina said, in a voice that betrayed not only the pain of the past, but also the fight for a better future.
▶️But the war changed everything overnight. In a time of great fear and chaos, Andrei transformed from a loving husband into a violent man, and Nina found herself in an abusive relationship, even while she was supposed to protect her child. Looking for a way to escape the violence and dangers of war, Nina fled with her son, leaving behind not only the suffering caused by the war, but also the pain of losing a loved one.
Arriving in Moldova, with her uncle, Nina found shelter and a little peace🫂, having the opportunity to learn Romanian and start a new life. Despite all the difficulties encountered, Nina did not give up, and her dream of offering her child a better life gave her the strength to move forward. Her story is a testimony to the resilience of women who, in the face of the greatest trials, choose to fight for a brighter future.
💭”Thanks to the support of UNFPA Moldova and the Artemida Public Association, women like me receive psychological and social help, having the chance to regain their dignity and safety,” says Nina.
