🌐 The digital world: a huge place of fun and play or a minefield for your child? 📱
✨The online environment offers our children unlimited access to knowledge, games and friends. However, with this open door to the virtual world, the risks also become greater and harder to notice.
Cyber predators/aggressors, cyberbullying and exposure to violent or inappropriate content are real risks.
Protecting children from the digital age does not mean banning them from using phones or technology. In the long term, total bans are not a solution. It means teaching them how to navigate safely.🛡️
🗣️👥Children need guidance and our conscious presence, not just restrictions.
🔐 3 golden rules for your child’s digital safety:
1️⃣ Establish “house rules” for devices together
⏱️Set clear time limits and establish technology-free zones – for example, no phones at the table or in the bedroom x time before bedtime.
You can use parental control apps, but explain to your child why you are using them.
2️⃣ Protect personal data📲
Teach your child that their personal data (name, surname, address and name of school, home address or phone number) is personal information and should not be given to strangers online.
A photo or other personal information posted on the internet can be saved, shared and used in other contexts, even if it is later deleted.
3️⃣ Keep the door open for dialogue💬
The most powerful safety filter is the child’s trust in the parent.
Tell your child that they can come to you if they see something suspicious online that scares them, makes them feel uncomfortable, or if a stranger asks for photos or personal information.
And, most importantly, assure them that you will not react with anger and that you will not take away their phone as punishment.
Just as we would not leave our children alone in an unfamiliar city at midnight, we should not leave them without guidance in such a vast online space that they do not yet know how to navigate.💻
