👥Refugees are not just a huge mass of people, but individual people with worries and joys, good and unhappy, who laugh and cry, love and get angry. They are people who were forced to leave their homes, loved ones and relatives, fled from explosions and bombings in a foreign country, not knowing whether they will return, whether they will see those they left behind in Ukraine 🇺🇦, whether they will hug their sons, fathers, husbands who remained to defend the Motherland. Over the three years of work of the Mobile Team 🚍, we have met many people who, saving their lives, came to our country🇲🇩 from Ukraine 🇺🇦.
👩👧I listened to the story of a mother who told how her daughter, under the roar of sirens and bombing, cried quietly and whispered: “Mom, I don’t want to die, please hide me.” What to do in such a situation?… In all possible and impossible ways, this woman got out of Ukraine 🇺🇦 and came to us, to our country, asked for protection for herself and her child. The main thing for her now is safety for herself and her child.
👴I talked to a pensioner from Ukraine 🇺🇦 who was able to be transported to Moldova🇲🇩 to his relatives only two years after the start of the war. He told us how he was beaten and tortured by Russian soldiers who were trying to find out in which troops of the Ukrainian army his son served. It was a hard story, but it was even harder to see the old man, exhausted and weak, with fresh marks and scars from blows to the head. It was unbearable to look into those eyes, the eyes of an elderly man who had lived through a nightmare of abuse and torture.
🌎All of them, REFUGEES who are on the territory of Moldova🇲🇩, all of these people fled on their own responsibility to a foreign country, with an unknown language of communication, with different traditions, with a different mentality and way of thinking. They are doing their best to integrate into our society: children study in our gymnasiums and universities📖, learn the state language, adults take Romanian language courses, master new professions and find jobs👮♀️👷👩⚕️🧑🍳.
Many of them lost loved ones in Ukraine🇺🇦, and most were left without homes, which were damaged by bombings and explosions. But they continue to live, supporting each other, with patience and faith that everything will get better and the war will end soon.
💬“Thanks to the support of UNFPA Moldova and the Artemida Public Association, we have the honor and opportunity to meet with refugees from Ukraine 🇺🇦 throughout the time since the beginning of the war, providing them with information, psychological assistance and humanitarian support,” says Liliana, the psychologist within the Mobile Team 🚍.
💬“The beneficiaries greet the Mobile Team 🚍 with respect and sincere smiles, listen carefully to new information, actively participate in discussions and receive individual psychological assistance. They tell us about their problems and plans for the future, ask questions, seek advice, cry and rejoice, knowing that no request, none of their questions will remain without attention and without an answer.” adds Liliana.
💬“We all sometimes face difficult situations in life. Failures, losses, disappointments, unfulfilled hopes – all this is part of the experience that no human destiny can do without. Difficulties and overcoming them strengthen character, but in moments of sadness and doubt this is the last thing we think about. We cannot always find the strength to cope with everything on our own. In such times, the support and involvement of others from the outside are often vital. And this is exactly the kind of support for refugees in Ukraine that the UNFPA Moldova Mobile Teams with the support of the Artemida Public Association provide, providing professional and high-quality support and services to our beneficiaries. We fulfill our mission with pride and great moral satisfaction, firmly believing that kindness and good deeds are the golden thread that connects the souls and hearts of all people on Earth”
🟠We are convinced that only together, through joint consolidated efforts, can we cope with all challenges.
