“To believe in good, you have to start doing good”
The history of Roma from Ukraine who fled the war in Moldova.
💬”This story is about a Roma family we met in one of the Moldovan villages, where our mobile team came to meet displaced people from Ukraine. They were invited to a meeting with us by the moderator who supervises the Roma in this village,” the psychologist from the Mobile Team tells us.
👨👩👧👦The family consists of five people – husband, wife and three children. During a conversation with adult members of the family, I learned that they were from the south of Ukraine, where they lived and ran their successful business.
💬 “We had to leave the house and run to save the children’s lives and take them to a safe place, where there are no night sirens and explosions,” the lady told us with sadness in her eyes.
The decision to leave the country was not easy, because for six months from the beginning of the war we were engaged in volunteer activities: we helped the needy, those who became homeless, delivered food, clothes, hygiene products staff and collecting support for ZSU.”
They showed us photos and videos of how their volunteer activities in Ukraine went.
They proudly shared with us that their eldest son graduated from a military school in Kiev in the spring and is defending his Motherland with the rank of second lieutenant.
They have been in the territory of Moldova for more than two months and are very grateful for the help and warm welcome, for the support from the local population, the village administration and the moderator.
The children started going to school🏣. Over time, their emotional state improved, irritability and anxiety disappeared.
The couple shared their plans with us – “And here we want to continue our volunteer activities, to help our compatriots who want to come to Moldova or are already here. We contacted the Roma who live in other regions of Moldova to cooperate with them in this area, we managed to help several families who had to flee the war and fled with their children from Ukraine to Moldova (we helped with transport and found housing, we have experience in charitable activities, we are ready to donate).
🙏We are grateful to your mobile team, the UNFPA Moldova organization, for the support and assistance you give us all!”
“Listening to the story of this family, you understand that kindness and compassion have no nationality, everything depends on the richness of the soul and heart,” the psychologist from the Mobile Team tells us.
🟠 We are convinced that only together through consolidated joint efforts, we will face the challenges.
