#Childhoodrighttosafety
🏠✨ When you think of a “safe child,” what comes to mind first?
Most of the time we think of a roof over our heads, clean clothes, a warm meal, and freedom from physical danger. All of these are essential. But the right to safety means much more.
According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, safety is not just about physical protection. It means respect, trust, care, and the fact that every child is listened to and valued.
💙 What does a safe child actually mean?
🛡️ Physical safety – an environment free from violence, neglect, and exploitation, at home, at school, and in the community.
❤️ Emotional safety – a place where a child can express all of their emotions without fear of being humiliated, rejected, or ridiculed. A child feels safe when they know they are loved unconditionally, not just when they are “good” or perform well.
🗣️ Social and relational safety – the certainty that their voice matters and that their opinion is listened to in decisions that concern them, depending on their age and level of development.
How can we, adults, contribute?
✔️ We really listen. We put the phone aside during the conversation and give them our full attention.
✔️ We correct behavior without hurting the relationship. Firm limits, explained calmly and respectfully, give the child security, not fear.
✔️ We are a refuge, not a court. The child needs to know that, regardless of the mistakes they make, they will find support and understanding at home.
🌱 Safety is not a prize that children must earn. It is a fundamental right. When a child grows up in a safe environment, they have a greater chance of becoming a balanced, confident and empathetic adult.
This month we are launching the campaign “The Child Has the Right to Safety” and we invite you to be part of this initiative by sharing this message. Because every child deserves to grow up in safety, and their protection is our responsibility, everyone’s.
